There's a stack of ways you can determine your location, from your GPS, a mapping app, Google etc.
However, if you're not familiar with lat/long coordinates, or just want a fast and simple way to communicate your precise location, especially in case of an emergency, these apps are great.
Two apps that you should add to your phone.
During a recent incident, our crew used w3w and gave the location to Emergency Services, it was easy, fast and more accurate than reading out lengthy coordinates.
You can use w3w as a standalone app or if using Emergency Plus, it will bring up your location using w3w, displaying a map of your position, the address, Lat/Long coordinates, the what3words of your location and links to call Emergency 000, SES or the Police Assistance Line.
The Emergency+ app is a free app developed by Australia’s emergency services and their Government and industry partners.
The app uses GPS functionality built into smart phones to help a Triple Zero (000) caller provide critical location details required to mobilise emergency services
