Garmin or ?

Safe to say we're passionate about mapping and all things GPS.

Starting with Rally Roadbooks way back in 1989, Marine mounted and Hand Held Hiking devices from 2000 right through to the current offerings from Garmin and apps from the various tech companies.

There's not too many we haven't used and we continue to compare them back to back.

Each system has it's pro's and con's, it really depends on your own requirements.

The Garmin Montana 680T remains our all time favorite device.

The newer 700 series was close, but with numerous failures, inconsistent operation and replacements, they make for expensive paper weights.

Once a convoluted system, the Zumo and Tread series have evolved into great consumer devices, they still fall short for power users, but overall, they've become the most popular amongst riders.

Once you get your head around the different Garmin apps and learn the 'workflow' they're great.

When it comes to apps, GAIA is solid, with only a few small hacks to customise and improve its usability.

A company that is continually evolving, listening to users and implementing changes is DMD.

We've been using DMD since it first launched a few years ago, the latest version (DMD2) is setting the standard for others to follow.
.
The developer listens to users, the tech support is gold standard, this approach has seemingly allowed them to build a system with everything a rider needs, nothing you don't and plenty of expansion well into the future.

You just need to keep up with the regular updates.

We're currently using: for different applications.

GPS: Garmin XT2, with OzTopo maps.
Apps: GAIA and DMD2.

Whatever system you use, spend the time getting to know it, better still, join one of our GPS Navigation rides and fast track your way around the tech wizardry.....
